Summer and the holiday home market

Holiday homes are a special part of the Swedish market. Here is what drives their prices.

Sweden has many holiday homes (fritidshus). They have their own market.

What drives the price

  • Water: a lake or sea view, or a private shore, adds a lot.
  • Distance: a short drive from a big city adds value.
  • Standard: can you live there all year, or only in summer?
  • Plot: size and privacy.

Seasons

Many buyers look at holiday homes in spring and early summer, when they can see them at their best.

Hard to guess

Holiday homes vary a lot. Two cottages of the same size can have very different prices because of the water and the plot. That makes them a good challenge in the game.

A tip

When you guess a holiday home, look at the map first: water, roads, other houses. That is where most of the price comes from.
