PricePinner runs on Android and iOS from one codebase written in React Native.
Why one codebase
A small team cannot build the same game twice. One codebase means one set of features, one scoring logic and one set of bugs to fix.
The same game everywhere
The rule is simple: the app must behave the same on both platforms. A score on Android must mean the same as a score on iPhone. Friends on different phones compete on equal terms.
What is still platform-specific
- Store builds and signing.
- Some map behaviour.
- Permissions, such as location.
Testing
Every change runs through automated tests. The user interface is also tested in an Android emulator with a script, so we catch problems before they reach a phone.
Would I choose it again?
Yes. For a small team with one product, one codebase is the right trade-off.
