What the build year tells you

The year a building was built says a lot about its price. Here is what to look for.

A street of homes from different years: an old red cottage, a 1930s house, a 1960s block and a new building

The build year is one of the clues in PricePinner. It is worth knowing what it can tell you.

Old city buildings

Buildings from around 1880 to 1930 in city centres are often popular. They have high ceilings, big windows and good locations. Buyers often pay extra for them.

The middle of the century

Many buildings from the 1940s and 1950s are well built and close to the centre. They often have smaller rooms and simple kitchens unless someone has renovated.

The large building programmes

Sweden built very many homes in the 1960s and 1970s. These areas are often further out, and prices are often lower. But it depends a lot on the area and on the renovations.

Newer buildings

Homes from the 1990s and later often have modern layouts and good energy use. New-build flats can have a high price per square metre.

How to use the clue

Use the build year to adjust your price per square metre, not to start your guess. Location still comes first. And remember: the photos often show the age. If you can see it, keep the clue closed.
