How a commute changes the price

Distance to work and to a train station is a big part of a home's price.

A train runs from a small town with houses to a city with tall blocks

Location is the biggest factor in a home's price. A large part of location is how easy it is to get to work.

Rail beats roads

A home near a metro, a commuter train or a tram stop often costs more than a home at the same distance from the centre without one.

Minutes, not kilometres

Buyers think in travel time. A home 20 km away with a 20-minute train ride can cost more than a home 10 km away with a 45-minute bus ride.

The walk to the station

Within walking distance of a station, prices are often higher. A few more minutes on foot can lower the price.

New lines

When a new rail line is built, prices near the new stations can change before it opens.

In the game

When you guess, look at the map for stations and big roads. Ask: how long would it take to get to the city centre from here?
