A checklist for your next viewing

A short list of things to check at a viewing (visning), from the street to the bathroom.

Visitors walk to a house for a viewing, and a big checklist stands in the garden

A viewing (visning) is often short and crowded. A checklist helps you see what matters.

Before you go

  • Make your own price guess from the facts and the map.
  • Read the association's annual report, or for a house, the inspection report if there is one.

On the street

  • Noise from traffic, trains or bars.
  • Distance to the bus, train or metro.
  • Shops, schools and parks nearby.

In the building

  • The stairwell and the entrance. Are they well kept?
  • Is there a lift?
  • Storage, laundry room and bicycle room.

In the home

  • Light: which way do the windows face?
  • The bathroom: age, signs of water damage.
  • The kitchen: age and condition.
  • Windows: draught, condensation.
  • Floor plan: does it work for you?

Questions for the agent

  • How many people have shown interest?
  • When does the bidding start?
  • Are there planned repairs in the building?

After the viewing

Compare your first guess with what you saw. Did you go up or down? Why?
